It wasn’t the route that welterweight Mike Swick had intended on taking towards a UFC title shot, but he’ll take it nonetheless. Reports have surfaced that Swick will face Dan Hardy at UFC 105 to determine who gets the next crack at welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre’s strap.
“Hey guys, no I am not fighting Hughes or GSP next. I do have some really cool news but can’t say just yet . . . Stay tuned,” Swick Tweeted on Sunday evening.
No need to wait on Swick as Mike Chiappetta of AOL FanHouse confirmed Swick’s next assignment with UFC president Dana White via text message late last evening.
Although White didn’t confirm a date or venue for the welterweight showdown, as of Monday morning, the Hardy vs. Dong Hyun Kim contest was still listed on the UFC 105 official roster. It’s likely that they will slide Swick into Kim’s spot and find another opponent for the talented Korean.
UFC 105 will be taking place inside the Manchester Evening News Arena in Manchester, England. The show will be made available to MMA fans in North America via same-day tape delay on Spike TV.
