If you ask Fabricio Werdum why he thinks Strikeforce heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem is still on the mend from a bar fight he was involved in, he’ll tell you that “Gummy Berry Juice” is not the answer to everything. Werdum claims that the champ is ducking him and that he’s scared to fight in the U.S.
“Overeem is running from the fight; I am pretty sure about that,” Werdum told MMAWeekly.com. “There is no sense he takes so long to come and fight in America.”
This past May, Overeem and his brother were involved in an altercation with security guards at an Amsterdam night club. Alistair ultimately injured his hand and was forced to the sidelines.
His hay-maker should have been heeled awhile back, however Overeem was forced to pull out of his “Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg” title bout against Werdum on August 15th because complications persisted, something that is still digging at the challenger.
“I cannot be 100-percent right about the reason he is taking so long to solve his issues and come to fight, but it seems either that the Gummy Berry Juice he is taking to give him super powers is (causing) him to avoid fighting here in America or he is afraid of having no arms to fight after facing me one more time,” Werdum stated.
Since defeating Paulo Buentello for the open Strikeforce heavyweight crown in November of 2007, Overeem has not set foot on U.S. soil, let alone a Strikeforce cage.
