According to a recent Twitter post from ESPN’s MMA Live, UFC lightweight Kenny Florian is confirmed for a UFC 107 scrap against Clay Guida in Menphis, Tennessee in December.
MMA Live, an employer of Florian’s, Tweeted the following yesterday:
“Breaking News: MMA Live has learned Kenny Florian will face Clay Guida at UFC 107 in December. The Live hits Memphis!”
Florian had recently told MMA FanHouse that he was “optimistic” the fight would be signed, as he is anxious to get back into the Octagon following his submission loss to lightweight champion BJ Penn at UFC 101.
It was initially thought that the two would square off at UFC 106 in Las Vegas, Nevada, however it looks like the organization opted to bolster UFC 107’s fight card after the light heavyweight main event bout between Rashad Evans and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson was scrapped.
Guida is also coming off a loss, as he came up short against Diego Sanchez, who has now become the number one contender and will likely face Penn later this year.
Florian had nothing but good things to say about his potential opponent, specifically the heart that the wild-haired Guida showed against Sanchez when it was clear he was in trouble at several points during their June bout.
“Clay’s a tough guy,” Florian explained. “He never quits.”
