Yesterday, officials from Dream announced that Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante will meet Daisuke Nakamura in their highly anticipated Dream.11 event on October 6th. Company brass also confirmed yesterday’s report that Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi has in fact pulled out of his fight against Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou due to an injury.
“JZ” stakes claim to a 14-3-1 record, however has hit a bit of a slump the last couple of years. After starting out his mixed martial arts career at 12-0-1 from 2004 to 2007, the American Top Team fighter has suffered back-to-back losses to Shinya Aoki and Tatsuya Kawajiri.
Nakamura is an M-1 veteran who defeated Ferrid Kheder via unanimous decision at “M-1: Breakthrough” late last month. With the victory, he has now won nine of his last ten contests. His only loss during this stretch came against Mitsuhiro Ishida via unanimous decision earlier this year at DREAM.7.
Dream also confirmed that they are currently scouring the earth for a replacement for Mousasi, however no prospects have been named as of yet. It was reported yesterday that the talented striker injured his shoulder during his exhibition grappling match against Fedor Emelianenko late last month.
The event will be taking place inside the Yokohama Arena in Kanagawa, Japan. The show will be broadcast on HDNet in North America, however no word on whether it will be live or via tape-delay.
