Despite the recent setback in her primary career, female mixed martial arts sensation Gina Carano has signed-on to play the lead character in director Steven Soderbergh’s latest film, “Knockout.”
Carano will play “a girl from the wrong side of the tracks who is given a second chance to use her skills for constructive purposes” according to Variety.
This isn’t the sexy sluggers first venture in front of a camera as she recently played “Crush” on the NBC series “American Gladiators.”
Speaking of non-rookie status, Soderbergh has been known to look outside of traditional Hollywood “industry” actors and actresses. Adult film star Sasha Grey landed the lead role in her first mainstream acting gig in Soderbergh’s last film, “The Girlfriend Experience.”
They are expected to start rolling cameras for “Knockout” in late January and filming is expected to take place all over the planet, including Ireland and Turkey, which leads MMA fans to ask the obvious question.
Well, don’t expect to see Carano back in the cage anytime soon following her disappointing first round TKO loss to Cris “Cyborg” Santos last month.
Most expect that she won’t be back in action until quarter two of 2010.
