Tickets for the UFC’s first event in Southern California in over two years went on sale yesterday through all of Ticketmaster’s outlets as well as the STAPLES Center box office.
“It’s been two years since the UFC was in Southern California and we knew we had to bring something special for our return to the capital of mixed martial arts,” UFC president Dana White said.
UFC 104 features a battle of then vs. now as current UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida will defend his title against a fighter who was once considered the best in the world at 205lbs. in Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
Machida defeated Rashad Evans at UFC 98 to win the title and pushed his unbeaten record to 15-0 with the knockout victory.
Rua has taken a much different route to his #1 contender slot. After narrowly getting past an aging Mark Coleman at UFC 93, Rua TKO’ed former light heavyweight king Chuck Liddell at UFC 97 to put him back at the top of the light heavyweight division.
