The Nevada State Athletic Commission has announced that Cole Province failed his WEC 42 post-fight drug test following his unanimous decision win over Fredson Paixao earlier this month.
NSAC executive director Keith Kizer states that they found traces of Methasterone metabolite in his system. Methasterone, a “designer steroid” previously sold as an over-the-counter dietary supplement, was banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency back in 2005.
Province, who holds a 6-1 professional mark, was immediately placed under temporary suspension until a formal hearing regarding the incident is made. Unfortunately, they were not able to fit it into their schedule for their August 19th event.
A suspension and/or fine could be issued at the hearing, and his victory could also be overturned to a No Contest.
Kizer states that the Commission tested a total of nine WEC 42 fighters, which took place August 9th at The Joint inside the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, with only Province failing a test.
In addition to Province, Miguel Torres, Brian Bowles, Dominick Cruz, Takeya Mizugaki, Leonard Garcia, Shane Roller, Ed Ratcliff and Diego Nunes were all tested following their fights.
