Melendez, who is from San Francisco, got a huge home-town welcome from the crowd.

Round 1: Both men traded some hard shots early on. Both fighters were feeling each other out this round, with neither being able to inflict much damage. Ishida was able to take Melendez to the ground late in the round and went for his back, but Melendez was able to power out and take Ishida down. Ishida was able to keep Melendez at bay for the rest of the round. scores the round 10-9 for Ishida.

Round 2: Both men started the round trading punches. Melendez continued to be aggressive, and pressed Ishida against the cage. Melendez was able to land some knees and elbows before Ishida slipped, but quickly got back up. Ishida is bleeding from the ear. Melendez rocked Ishida with a big right, followed by a flurry of punches and proceeded to take Ishida to the ground. He got a front face lock on Ishida and continued to land blows. Melendez landed some hard knees to the Ishida’s body while pressing him against the cage, and snuck in a few more shots before Ishida was able to get back to his feet. Crowd is starting to go wild. Ishida went for a kick and slipped and Melendez pounced on Ishida as the round came to an end. 10-9 for Melendez.

Round 3: Loud “Gilbert” chant. Both men start the round trading punches. Melendez continued to pick away at Isida, and landed a big right that took Ishida down, and proceeded to land a flurry of punches. Melendez pressed Ishida against the cage and controlled him on the ground. He kept going for the rear-naked choke, but Ishida was able to slip out. Melendez changed directions, and just started wailing away with punches to the side of the head and the referee stopped it.
