Thales Leites has been released from the UFC after suffering his second loss in a row at UFC 101 to Alessio Sakara. Just four months ago, Leites was competing against UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva for the middleweight title after having earned five straight victories in the UFC.
Leites (14-3) made his UFC debut at The Ultimate Fighter Season 4 Finale against Martin Kampmann, but lost by unanimous decision. He went on to win five straight bouts over the likes of Nate Marquart and Drew McFedries.
He received a lot of criticism for his lackluster performance against Anderson Silva at UFC 97, and needed an impressive victory in his fight with Sakara at UFC 101. However, he lost a lackluster split decision to the heavy-handed fighter, prompting his release.
