When you hear that a world-class fighter like Anderson Silva is “very excited and very anxious to get this fight going,” you know the scrap means something to him. Maybe he knows that after two very un-Anderson Silva like performances, he’s going to get a chance to showcase his abilities against a guy who loves to push the pace.
“It has been tough on me to put on great fights. I respect all of my past opponents, but the last two were tough for me to get things going,” the middleweight champ candidly said. “I don’t know why, but I am ready now, that’s for sure.”
“The Spider’s” performances against Patrick Cote and Thales Leites were viewed as sub-par by UFC brass and the fans. Although they both went down as wins, they weren’t in the electrifying fashion that UFC fans have grown accustomed to.
Perhaps that’s why he agreed to fight against former light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin tonight at UFC 101. Silva has been calling to face someone that’s willing to bang. Well, there isn’t anyone more up for that task than Griffin.
However, Silva knows that just because Griffin is known for his slug-fests, that doesn’t mean that’s going to be the same strategy he’ll see in the Octagon come game time.
“[I have to] be prepared for every situation, and it’s just unfortunate that those guys came in with that strategy,” Silva said of comparing Griffin to his last two foes.
Silva has been a lot more serious and focused during this UFC 101 media week. Perhaps it’s the calm before the storm?
