In case you didn’t hear, Strikeforce’s “Carano vs. Cyborg” changed from a four-title fight card to just three, and all because of a fight that took place outside the ring.
Strikeforce heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem and his brother, Valentine, were asked to leave an Amsterdam night club.
Valentine fell behind as he was subsequently surrounded by six security guards.Alistair looked back and saw his brother get hit upside his grill with a flashlight by one of the guards, which forced Alistair to give them the business.
Overeem began training for Werdum after receiving treatment for the infection, but reportedly returned to the hospital on several occasions when problems persisted.
Since defeating Paulo Buentello for the open Strikeforce heavyweight crown in November of 2007, Overeem has not set fought on U.S. soil, let alone a Strikeforce cage.
Following that win, he has been perfect through his last four fights overseas, not including his domination of Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic at Dream.6, which resulted in a ‘No Contest’ due to a couple of illegal groin shots administered by Overeem.
Now, his hiatus from Strikeforce continues and looks to be never ending.
