An opponent has been named for Ricardo “The Brazilian Tiger” Arona’s September 12th return in Amaury Bitetti’s self-named Bitetti Combat promotion in Rio, Brazil.
A Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace and 12-time PRIDE veteran, Ricardo Arona is set to fight after a two-and-a-half year layoff and will take on five-time UFC veteran Marvin “The Beastman” Eastman. Currently at 16-9, Eastman boasts past wins over Quinton Jackson, Jason McDonald, and Alan Belcher amongst others. As a journeyman of the UFC, WEC, and King of the Cage promotions, “The Beastman” should present enough of a challenge to not be a pushover in Arona’s first fight back.
For Arona, once one of the top lightweights in the PRIDE promotion, this fight marks the first in what is hoped to be a resurgence for the Brazilian Top Team product. Prior to his layoff, he had one just one of his last four bouts, which included knockout losses to Sokoudjou and Mauricio “Shoguan” Rua. His lone win came against current Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem. Arona looks to return to his winning ways come September 12th in Brazil.
