Today, UFC welterweight Mike Swick confirmed previous reports that he will indeed be taking on Martin Kampmann at UFC 103 in Dallas, Texas. Swick posted on his Twitter account that although the contracts aren’t signed, the bout is pretty much a done deal.
“It is not official yet because the contracts are not signed but it looks like I will return to Texas & fight Martin Kampmann on Sept. 19th,” Swick Tweeted.
Swick has been perfect since dropping to the 170-pound division, and has openly stated that his four consecutive W’s are worthy of a shot at the strap.
“I am very excited and plan to give my Texas fans a great fight,” Swick added. “I am already back in the gym training. 12 weeks to go . . .”
Kampmann has won 11 of his last 12 contests, with his only loss coming at the hands of middleweight top contender Nate Marquardt at UFC 88. He most recently welcomed Carlos Condit into the UFC in his last outing, taking a split decision over the former WEC welterweight champ.
The bout will most probably serve as a top contender match-up, with the victor likely earning a shot at the strap.
