Breaking News: Nick Diaz To Fight Joe Riggs On August 18th

MMA Podcast, Carson’s Corner is reporting a big-time grudge match as signed for the August 18th Strikeforce card. The card already features the biggest women’s MMA bout in history, as Gina Carano is set to headline against Cris Cyborg. Now it is being reported by Bob Carson that the card just got that much more interesting as Nick Diaz is set to rematch Joe “Diesel” Riggs as well.

For those readers that don’t know, there is quite a history behind these two. Everyone knows that Nick Diaz has been on an absolute tear lately, finishing Scott Smith and Frank Shamrock. But back in February of 2006, he actually lost in his first fight against Riggs on the undercard of UFC 57. Now while Diaz lost that decision, the undercard fight in the octagon wasn’t the most talked-about fight between these two that night. Immediately following the UFC 57 event, these two fighters actually got into a brawl in the hospital!

According to Riggs in an MMAWeekly interview, these two had actually been trash-talking before and during the fight. And after the final bell rang, the two didn’t shake hands but rather continued their feud at the hospital afterwards while they were receiving post-fight treatment.

“We were like going to get a room, and like he is always popping off, talking smack. I go down toward his end of the hospital to find a doctor so he could watch me pee in a cup for the boxing commission, and he comes talking smack. I’m like, go back to the WEC. You’re bush league. You just got beat up. That’s two in a row. You’re out. I was just standing around talking sh*t to him. He was like, that’s it, and comes out of his room. I had my hands down. He starts coming up to me. I just never in a million years thought he’d throw a punch. He threw a right hook and hit me right in the chin. I mean it hit me right on the button. I seriously can’t say that I was knocked out, but I kind of went down to a knee. Then we just fought and scrambled. I put him against the wall and just Thai clinched and started kneeing the sh*t out of him. His nose was bleeding. I kept kneeing him, and they broke us up. That’s all that happened.” – Joe Riggs in his version of the infamous hospital post-fight scrap.

In the same interview, Riggs also goes on to say that Nick Diaz is crazy and that he hoped never to see him again. Now if this report is true, that all changes on August 18th at Strikeforce. Expect a barn-burner in this one folks as these two old foes look to settle the score once and for all.
