Rumors have been making their rounds surrounding BJ Penn’s current interest, or lack there of, of fighting #1 lightweight contender Kenny Florian. Penn was quick to shoot down any rumors about being out of shape by posting a video of Penn weighing himself at a slender 166.8 lbs.
Following Diego Sanchez’ win at The Ultimate Fighter Season 9 Finale over Clay Guida, the former TUF champion was quick to throw his name in the mix if Penn was unable to compete.
“Say something happens and B.J. isn’t ready to defend his title and he vacates, Diego Sanchez is going to be right there saying ‘Joe Silva, let’s get it homie. Bring Kenny Florian one more time. Let’s do this!” Sanchez told Steve Cofield of Cagewriter.
Thoughts about Penn wanting to get a re-match with Georges St-Pierre as opposed to fighting Florian, as well as the birth of his new baby daughter have been the main topics regarding a lack of motivation for Penn.
As you can see in part one of the video below, Penn is clearly training and is should be ready to go by August 8th’s UFC 101: Declaration. For part two of the video, click here.
