Brett “The Grim” Rogers showed his critics that he’s here to stay at Affliction: Lawler vs. Shields on June 6th, when the undefeated heavyweight knocked out former UFC Heavyweight Champion in just 22 seconds.
“It was a great experience taking out somebody that’s in the top ten,” Rogers told Rod Moyer of FightLine.com after the fight. “I can’t thank [Strikeforce head] Scott Coker enough! He gave me the chance to come back, come back and showcase my skills and show the world that Brett ‘The Grim’ Rogers ain’t nothing to be played with.”
Rogers now has his eyes set on the Strikeforce Heavyweight Championship, held by Alistair Overeem. The two were originally scheduled to face each other at the June 6th event, however Overeem had to bow out of the fight after suffering a hand injury following a nightclub brawl (details) in May.
“I’m looking for Alistair, dawg, I’m looking for Alistair,” Rogers warned. “I should have had my title today. He pushed me back, so he better bring it. He had all this time, so Alistair, better watch out, dawg!”
