It is being reported that a lightweight contest between Tyson Griffin and Hermes Franca is set for UFC 103 on September 19th. The unannounced card is likely to take place inside the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, marking the organization’s Lone Star State debut.
MMAWeekly.com has confirmed with sources close to the situation that bout agreements should be signed and submitted shortly.
This will be Franca’s first fight since suffering a nasty knee injury while preparing for his UFC Night Night 17 scrap against Joe Lauzon in February.
“I was training and it was getting better,” Franca told the website. “I never hurt my knee before, so I didn’t know how bad it was. Before Joe Lauzon, it was really hurting. I found out it was my ligaments, my ACL, my meniscus, and cartilage. The MRI showed me everything.”
The Brazilian jiu jitsu ace currently holds a 19-7 professional record, however is only 6-4 inside the Octagon. He has posted a 1-1 record since completing a year-long suspension after testing positive for a banned substance following his loss to then-champ Sean Sherk at UFC 73.
Griffin was last seen taking another decision victory at UFC Fight Night 18. The Xtreme Couture-trained fighter defeated grappling sensation Rafael Dos Anjos, it was Griffin’s seventh consecutive fight that was determined off the judges’ scorecards.
