With a simple Tweet, the UFC “officially” announced that UFC 102 will indeed be taking place in Portland, Oregon on August 29th. “UFC 102 (Portland, OR) – Room block reserved at the Marriott Downtown Waterfront,” the UFC wrote on their official Twitter page.
Although no fights were announced in the Tweet, it is expected that former UFC heavyweight champions Randy Couture and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will headline the event.
Having Couture headline would make a lot of sense as he was a former member of Team Quest, Portland. That camp still has a large footprint in Oregon via their self-promoted ”SportFight” events at the Rose Garden.
Both Couture and Nogueira dropped their last bouts, losses which cost each of them the UFC heavyweight championship.
This will mark the UFC’s debut in the state of Oregon as the world’s largest MMA organization continues its march across the country.
