Dream has released the pairings for the final round of their inaugural Welterweight Grand Prix Tourney, which is scheduled to take place at Dream.10 on July 20th.
Jason High confirmed with MMAWeekly.com yesterday evening that he will be facing jiu-jitsu wizard Andre Galvao in the semifinals inside the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.
High barely broke a sweat in his 1stRound fight against Yuya Shirai at Dream.8 just last month. It took him all of 59 seconds to sub the Japanese fighter with a rear-naked choke, bumping his pro record to 7-1.
Galvao also made his Dream debut that same evening, submitting John Alessio via armbar in the 1stRound of their battle.
Japanese superstar Hayato Sakurai will be taking on Marius Zaromskis in the other half of the tourney’s bracket. He is fresh off of his impressive win over WAMMA lightweight champ Shinya Aoki in the tournament’s opening round, leaving him as the favorite to take the crown.
Zaromskis earned his way into the semifinals by defeating Seichi Ikemoto by unanimous decision. The little-known fighter has compiled a 9-2 professional record.
In addition, Dream officials confirmed the show will also be hosting a rubber match between Aoki and lightweight Grand Prix champ Joachim Hansen.
Aoki got the better of Hansen in their first meeting in December of 2006 when he gogoplata’ed him in the 1stRound of their scrap. However, Hansen regrouped nicely in their rematch by TKO’ing Aoki in the Lightweight Grand Prix Finals last year.
