Today, Strikeforce announced that the scheduled 135-pound fight between Miesha Tate (7-1) and Kim Couture (1-1) has been cancelled for the Strikeforce Challenger Series card. This bout was scheduled for the televised portion of the fight card, which is scheduled for broadcast on cable network Showtime on May15th.
Event organizers did not give a reason for the cancellation but according to a Myspace bulletin posted by Tate, Kim Couture’s reason for pulling out of the fight stemmed from marital problems with her husband, UFC Hall-of-Famer Randy Couture. After much publicity due to the bulletin, Tate later retracted the comments, stating she did mean for the announcement to bring such negative attention to everyone involved.
Strikeforce officials are now searching for a replacement to face Miesha Tate in leiu of Kim Couture.
