Strikeforce light-heavyweight champion Renato “Babalu” Sobral has been forced to withdraw from his first title defense against Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante at Strikeforce: “Lawler vs. Shields” on June 6th. Sobral is expecting a child who’s birth will fall too close to the fight.
Renato Sobral’s scheduled fight against Cavalcante was suppose to be his first title defense since capturing the strap by defeating Bobby Southworth back in November.
Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante (7-1) will remain on the card against an as of yet unnamed opponent. Cavalcante is currently riding a 3-fight win streak has been idle since his July victory over Travis Galbraith at EliteXC: Unfinished Business. The 7-1 “Feijao” went 3-0 while with EliteXC and he was acquired from Strikeforce as part of the EliteXC buyout.
“Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields” takes place on June 6th in St. Louis and will be headlined by a catch weight bout between former EliteXC champions Robbie Lawler and Jake Shields.
