Ricardo Almeida (10-3) and Kendall Grove (9-5) have verbally agreed to face one another at UFC 101.
The news comes courtesy of a report on Fighthype.
Almeida, who came back to the UFC after a three year layoff, is 2-1 in his comeback bid and 8-1 in his last nine fights. He dropped a hard fought split decision to Patrick Cote last July before rebounding nicely, earning a unanimous decision over highly regarded Matt Horwich.
He’ll take on a surging Kendall Grove, who’s looked like an entirely different fighter in his past two fights, from the guy who dropped two straight to Patrick Cote and Jorge Rivera.
The TUF 3 winner earned a unanimous decision over UFC great Evan Tanner at the TUF 7 Finale last year before walking through Jason Day at UFC 96.
UFC 101, which is scheduled for August 8 and will likely take place at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, Pa., will feature a highly anticipated scrap between UFC lightweight champion B.J. Penn and number one contender Kenny Florian. The event is also set to host a big lightweight bout between Forrest Griffin and the previously unbeaten Thiago Silva. Both of whom are coming off of losses and looking to keep their title shot dreams in play.
