A lightweight bout has been added to UFC 101 as controversial lightweight Melvin Guillard will return to the octagon to fight American Top Team fighter Thiago Tavares. UFC 101 takes place in Portland, Oregon, on August 8.
Guillard last fought nearly a year ago at UFC 86: Jackson vs. Griffin last July, where he was victorious over Denis Siver. Guillard was rumored to return to the UFC on a couple different occasions as he was first supposed to fight Spencer Fisher at UFC 90 back in October but that fight didn’t come together. He was then supposed to fight on the upcoming UFN 18 event against UFC newcomer Ronys Torres, but that fight never materialized due to an injury suffered by Torres.
Thiago Tavares is coming off of a victory over former TUF competitor, Manny Gamburyan, at UFC 94 back in January. Tavares has experienced a rather inconsistent stretch as of late by losing three of his last five fights and his UFC record currently stands at 4-3.
