Andrei Arlovski Set For Professional Boxing Debut

Andrei Arlovski will apparently make good on his promise to try his hand at boxing when he steps in the ring at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, NV on April 11.

The former UFC champion has agreed to face an as yet unnamed opponent on the undercard of the Winky Wright-Paul Williams tilt to be featured on HBO.

Arlovski has been encouraged by world renown boxing coach Freddie Roach, who began working with Arlovski last year, to give boxing a shot. Roach went as far as proclaiming Arlovski fit to go up against heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev after getting a few tune up fights. If anyone knows boxing it’s Roach. It’ll be interesting to see how Arlovski’s emense physical talents will translate to the sport of boxing.

No word on what this may mean to Arlovski’s future MMA prospects but Arlovski himself has stated his preference to remain in competitive MMA for the foreseeable future.

His last fight, a loss to MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko, left a bitter taste in Arlovski’s mouth and he has a strong desire to get a rematch down the line. Another match up with Tim Sylvia is also a possibility in the mean time depending on how Arlovski’s boxing prospects shake out.
