Andrei Arlovski stood toe-to-toe with the worlds greatest heavyweight fighter and appeared to be getting the better of him. He backed up the champion with pin point jabs and solid leg kicks. He countered the champions infamously powerful over hand right with great foot work and a stiff left jab. And just when he seemed to have the champ on his heels he broke from his game plan and rushed in to try a flying knee. Seconds later he lay unconscious on the floor. Another victim of Fedor Emelianenko’s powerful right hand.
“I did pretty good in the first few minutes,” Arlovski stated at the Affliction post fight press conference. “But then I tried to do something flashy and paid for it. I have to sit down with myself and figure out why I didn’t listen to my trainers. Every single jab or right hand, I thought that I hurt him. It was very effective for me. I don’t know why I changed my tactic. One little mistake and I paid for this. All my hard work and training, I just threw it in the toilet.
Despite being laid out face first on the canvas, Arlovski seems to feel that it’s just a matter of time before the champion is defeated.
“I’m really worried that somebody will beat Fedor. I just want to wish him that he wins against all his next opponents until our next match. He’s a great fighter… sooner or later someone will beat him. I’m very upset with myself that I wasn’t that person. You know he’s human.”
