At yesterday’s post fight press conference, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson confirmed that he wants a shot at the light heavyweight title, but would prefer getting in the cage with his TUF 7 arch nemesis Forrest Griffin first.
“I’m ready to get my title back,” Jackson said. “Everybody wants to be the champion; everyone wants to be the best but to be quite honest, I’d rather go and fight Forrest.
Griffin defeated Jackson in his second title defense after Jackson won the title with a knockout of Chuck Liddell and successfully defended it against former PRIDE light heavyweight champion Dan Henderson.
Jackson reportedly took the loss very hard and went on a fast contributed to the normally gregarious and jovial fighter to have a “mental episode”. Jackson sideswiped a few cars en route to leading police on a high speed chase before pulling over and allowing police to take him into custody. Jackson has been reluctant to speak about the incident but states that the episode is in the past and no longer affects him. The lose to Griffin however, still appears to have some sting.
“That’s the fight that haunts me when I go to sleep,” Jackson said. “I have nightmares about it. That’s the fight. I won the belt, I was the champion… but I’d like to get Forrest first. But it’s up to the UFC.”
