UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre has a huge fight on his hands, but it won’t come in the octagon. The popular UFC stalwart will battle four other big name Canadian athletes for the coveted Sportsnet 2008 Canadian Athlete of the Year.
The award is annually narrowed down to five athletes by the Canadian sports giant and then voted on by the public.
Last years’ winner Sidney Crosby beat out the NBA’s Steve Nash and MLB’s Jeff Francis among others.
This year the competition includes the NHL’s Jarome Iginla, Baseballs’s Justin Morneau, Tennis star Daniel Nestor and Paralympic gold medalist Chantal Petitclerc.
