Apparently, your days of enjoying free WEC cards are in jeopardy. According to WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber, the company plans on moving into the PPV market in the very near future.
“Versus and the WEC are doing a great job of getting the promotion out there, and I don’t see any crossing over with the UFC and the WEC,” Faber said via conference call. “I do, however, see pay per view being in the future for sure. Dana and Lorenzo said something to me about that. Peter Dropick, who’s the VP, said something to me about that. Of course I’d be on the it.”
As for a time frame, Faber said that fans could look forward to shelling out additional funds to watch WEC events as early as next year.
“It’s definitely going to happen in 2009,” Faber continued. “I don’t know against who or what the scenario is going to be. It’s only been two years since it’s been under the Zuffa umbrella and look how far it’s come. I think there’s a lot more exciting things to happen in the next few years…this being one of them.”
