Beijing gold medalist, Satoshi Ishii, will become the third Japanese gold medalist in the sport of judo to join the ranks of Mixed Martial Arts. Ishii informed Japanese judo officials on Friday according to a report by Nikkansports.
Hidehiko Yoshida and Makoto Takimoto are the other Japanese gold medalists from judo to enter the ring. Ishii has signed with FEG, which is the parent company for the Dream MMA promotion.
Ishii won the gold medal in the 108kg category at a weight of 240lbs. He will clearly be cutting weight to compete as he is only 5’11” and would be substantially undersized as a heavyweight.
