Sources close to the fight have informed Fightline.com that Matt Hamill and Reese Andy have signed bout agreements to face one another as part of the main card at UFC 92. Both fighters are looking to right the ship after losses to big-name fighters making there debuts at light heavyweight.
Hamill (6-2) dropped his first definitive fight last month at UFC 88 after going three lackluster rounds with former UFC middleweight champion and good friend Rich Franklin. Hamill succumbed to body kicks in the third round giving Franklin a solid victory over a worthy opponent in his return to the light heavyweight division.
Many questioned Hamill’s performance in the fight; some stated that Hamill was a shell of himself and that he may have had a difficult time going up against Franklin due to their personal relationship. Lending credence to this view is the fact that the Olympic level wrestler didn’t attempt a single takedown for the duration of the fight which allowed Franklin to pick him apart with his trademark precision striking.
Hamill has vowed to make up for his last performance and is very motivated to get back in the win column.
“I definitely need to get back in the win column, Hamill told Fightline. “I need to learn to get everything out of my head before I fight again. I have a long way to go before a title shot. I didn’t do well against Rich and it was embarrassing. I have learned my lesson and I will do well in my next fight.”
Andy (7-2), is a veteran of the recently defunct IFL. He dropped a fairly close decision to Brandon Vera at UFC Fight Night 14 in Vera’s light heavyweight debut. Andy holds a notible win over Krzysztof Soszynski of Ultimate Fighter 8 fame.
