Prior and during his UFC 90 upset to upstart Junior dos Santos, many had the notion that Fabricio Werdum was the next contender to Randy Couture/Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira’s UFC heavyweight title. All of those notions went straight out the window when Werdum ate an uppercut from dos Santos.
It only took a relatively unknown heavyweight :80 seconds to dispatch of the more experienced Werdum and that definitely puts a damper into his UFC title aspirations.
Take a look at Werdum’s track record and you shouldn’t be surprised. Yes he has impressive wins over both Brandon Vera and Gabriel Gonzaga, but the Vera win was against a still rusty and oversized Vera while the Gabriel Gonzaga he faced was a shell of the Gabriel Gonzaga that went up against Randy Couture at UFC 74.
Anybody can get caught in MMA, we’ve all seen that but now its up to Werdum to go back to the drawing board with his Chute Boxe coaches and start all over again.
I just hope that if you’re reading this, you didn’t bet on Werdum at UFC 90.
