It was highly rumored last week that Josh Barnett would finally get a shot at fighting Fedor Emelianenko on Affliction’s tentatively scheduled January card. Now it appears that it will not happen as Barnett’s representative Shannon Hooper told USAToday, “It is unlikely that Josh and Fedor will fight within the next few months.”
With Barnett now out of the picture for an Emelianenko fight, it is unclear as to whether or not Barnett will even compete on Affliction’s second card. There seems to have been a lot of miscommunication between Barnett and Affliction since “Affliction: Banned” took place.
What we do know is that Fedor will fight on the January Affliction card, what we don’t know is who against. A possibility would obviously be his original opponent for “Affliction: Day of Reckoning” in Andrei Arlovski. It was a hand injury that forced Fedor out of the fight and subsequently moved Affliction out of Las Vegas.
Arlovski is coming off of an impressive KO victory over former IFL heavyweight champion Roy Nelson at EliteXC’s “Saturday Night Fights”. With five straight wins under his belt and four coming in the form of KO (3 KO’s, 1 TKO), Arlovski would be the logical choice to go for Fedor’s WAMMA heavyweight title.
