El Nino testing the free agent waters

Gilbert Melendez spoke to MMAWeekly about his MMA future recently and he stated that he only has one fight left on his current Strikeforce contract. Melendez made it clear that he will test enter into free agency, “it’s going to feel good to be a free agent after this fight and see what I can do.”

Obviously the first thing that everyone wants to know is if he’s going to join the UFC, to which Melendez responded by saying, “that’s an organization I’ve always liked to be a part of and a lot of the guys in there I would want to fight.”

Melendez’ next fight may or may not take place on November 21st, he does want to avenge his losses to Mitsuhiro Ishida and current Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson, but he may have to re-sign with Strikeforce in order to do so.
