Ryo Chonan will be making his return to the Octagon at UFC 92. He will be taking on former IFL fighter Brad Blackburn who will me making his second appearance for the UFC. The December 27th event will be the organization’s last card of the year, and historically have ended their years with a bang. However, due to the big cards that surround UFC 92, specifically UFC 91 and UFC 93, the promotion hasn’t been able to add the box office names or match ups to this year’s New Year’s Eve event, as they have done in the past.
Chonan is only 1-1 in the UFC, however many MMA fans know him from his PrideFC days, more specifically when he defeated reigning UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva via flying scissor heel hook in 2004. Although he has fought some of the world’s best fighters, Silva is the only one that he has beaten, and it required a circus move to do so. Also, the Anderson Silva then definitely is not the Anderson Silva of today.
Blackburn holds an overall record of 12-9-1, however posted an impressive 4-1 record in the IFL. His most notable win with the organization was his TKO victory over reigning IFL champion Jay Hieron just last year. He defeated James Giboo via TKO in his Octagon debut at Fight Night 14.
Here are the fighters Rumored to be heading to UFC 92:
