Murilo Bustamante runs Brazilian Top Team and is a mentor to Rousimar Palhares who recently dropped a decision to Dan Henderson in an exciting back and forth affair this past weekend at UFC 88.
Bustamante On Henderson:
Henderson deserved that because he had the correct strategy. He got saved at the end of the first round, because he would have been forced to tap out on the leg-lock, and was lucky in the second round when he escaped from the heel-hook as well. Rousimar fought with a broken toe and hurt his knee in the middle of the fight. But it’s no excuse, Rousimar made some mistakes and we’ll work to correct those before the next fight. Henderson fought an ugly fight, he worked to avoid the ground. We saw a newcomer going forward all the time. Rousimar came forward the whole time and looked for the fight all the time. If Henderson was more aggressive, they could have had the best fight of the night.
Bustamante On Palhares’ Future:
If Rousimar had won this fight he’d have jumped directly to a title shot. There were was a lot of pressure on both sides and it was a good psychological test. It was just his second international trip; a boy that just came from the countryside. Rousimar will be the UFC champion. I don’t know when but he will. He has an excellent ground game, good wrestling and is developing his stand-up.
