Apparently the UFC is poised to make another “major announcement” today at 3PM ET according to UFC.com. Many expect Dana White and the UFC to announce the return of the heavyweight champion, Randy “The Natural” Couture. Rumors have been circulating that Couture has been in discussions with the promotion to return to the Octagon for the first time since last August, when he defeated Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 74. There are even some rumors that Couture may fight Brock Lesnar this year.
Everything started last October when Couture officially retired from the sport of MMA hoping that he could get free of his UFC contract so that he could chase down the dream fight that he wanted against Fedor Emelianenko.
The UFC had been in discussions with Emelianenko, but those quickly fell through as both sides blamed each other for not being flexible enough. That prompted Couture to try and make the fight with Emelianenko happen himself but with a legal battle that has no end in sight, it seems as though Couture is ready to return to the Octagon as he isn’t getting any younger.
It is being reported that Couture will agree to new terms on a contract today and that he will receive more money then he did on the contract that he had retired from.
