When Strikeforce Lightweight Champion Josh “The Punk” Thomson takes on Lion’s Den fighter Ashe Bowman at “Strikeforce at the Mansion II”, there won’t be gold on the line.
For undisclosed reasons, the fight will be a three-round non-title affair.
Thomson defeated Gilbert Melendez in June to win the title in what many consider to be an upset victory.
Bowman, who got his start fighting for Ken Shamrock Productions and is trained by the MMA legend, is riding a three-fight win streak. Jay Estrada was also considered as an opponent for “The Punk” but in the end it was the submission specialist Bowman who got the nod.
“Strikeforce at the Mansion” takes place on Sept. 20 at the “Playboy Mansion” in Beverly Hills, Calif.
