Strikeforce recently announced that middleweight rising star Cory Devela will meet the recently KO’d Terry Martin at “Strikeforce at the Mansion II” which will take place on Sept. 20 at the “Playboy Mansion”.
Devela hasn’t lost since his June ’04 bout against Ed “Short Fuse” Herman. His only other loss came against Matt Horwich in Devela’s pro debut. He most recently defeated Dan Molina via unanimous decision at an Xtreme Cage Combat event in April. He also holds wins over Joe Riggs and Lodune Sincaid.
Devela attributes much of his success to his trainer and mentor Dennis “Superman” Hallman.
“Dennis runs practice almost like a wrestling practice, and I’ve been a wrestler since elementary school, so I learned the same way he teaches,” Devela stated in a press release. “There’s a lot of live activity whether we’re wrestling or sparring kickboxing. People underestimate my wrestling. Joe Riggs did and got thrown because of that. I’m going to do the same thing to Terry if he wants to wrestle with me.”
Devela’s opponent Martin most recently fought in Affliction’s promotional MMA debut and was knocked out by former UFC champ Vitor Belfort in a preliminary bout.
