On September 10th at WEC 36, “Razor” Rob McCullough and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone will be fighting each other not only for a check in the win column, but also for a chance to fight for the title. The winner will likely go on to fight lightweight champion Jamie Varner at a future event. The news came from MMAWeekly.com.
“I want Rob to win, I really want Rob to win. I like Donald Cerrone, he’s a great fighter. I’d like to fight both of them, but I’ve just got a bone to pick with Rob,” Varner says.
“I just didn’t like the way him and his camp handled everything after our fight, like post-fight they just made a lot of excuses. I felt like you win like a man, you lose like a man, and I just felt like he made a lot of excuses.”
Varner is of course referring to their fight from WEC 32 wherein Varner scored a TKO victory over McCullough to capture the WEC lightweight title. Varner most recently defeated Marcus Hicks at WEC 35, also by TKO.
WEC 36 takes place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla. and can be seen live on the VERSUS network.
