FightLine.com’s Jason Perkins was on Pro MMA Radio last night. Perkins talked about UFC 87, Roger Huerta, Brock Lesnar, a potential St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn fight and more. Strikeforce Lightweight World Champion Josh “The Punk” Thomson also joined the show and talked about Gilberrt Melendez, Frank Shamrock, fighting at the Playboy Mansion, AKA and his future plans. Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer that the UFC and Roger Huerta were “far apart” regarding contract negotiations. Huerta now has one fight left on his contract. Huerta had recently gotten a new agent and was asking for six-figures guaranteed per fight as well as points on PPV, which is a better deal than the one UFC Lightweight Champion BJ Penn has. Obviously with his loss to Kenny Florian this past Saturday night, his leverage has been hurt greatly. At the UFC 87 post press conference, Huerta said “I never bashed the UFC. All I was saying in a financial point of view or a retirement plan, I can only do this for so long. You can’t argue about this, if another company offers you something better you would do that. It’s the logical thing to do.”
Brock Lesnar has been coming under fire for his post fight antics with Heath Herring. Yahoo! Sports has a blog about whether Lesnar’s actions were low class, which you can read by clicking here. Jason Perkins discussed the topic on Pro MMA Radio and it was noted that before the fight, Herring had stated that he shouldn’t have been fighting Lesnar, which may have caused Lesnar to act the way he did.
