UFC 87 which took place last Saturday night in Minneapolis, Minn. at the Target Center, broke the venue’s previously held live gate record of $2,062,000 which was set by Elton John and Billy Joel back in 2001. UFC 87, which featured a main event of Georges St. Pierre versus Jon Fitch, pulled in 15,082 fans and an astounding $2,252,000 in ticket sales.
UFC President Dana White announced the figures after the show early Sunday morning. The number of complimentary tickets given out has not been made public.
This was the UFC’s first show in the “Gopher State” and as the numbers easily prove, was a rousing success. Dana White hinted that the UFC would very likely be back sometime in the future.
