On a recent edition of TAGG Radio, Dana White has confirmed that the UFC will in fact absorb the 185lb. and 205lb. divisions of the WEC.
“We’re working on that right now,” White said.
It’s long been rumored that the divisions would be folded into the UFC, and although there is not currently a timetable for the switch, it has now been confirmed as being in the works.
Steve Cantwell, who recently won the LHW title from Brian Stann, and Paulo Filho, the Middleweight Champion, would be the biggest acquisitions for the UFC. Although Cantwell and previous champion Brian Stann are not likely to make a splash in the UFC’s already stacked LHW division, Paulo Filho is widely considered the biggest threat to Anderson Silva’s title reign. Filho and Silva are friends and training partners and have publicly stated that they do not wish to fight each other, but with middleweights like Dan Henderson, Dean Lister, Michael Bisping, Ricardo Almeida, and Patrick Cote, there are many interesting match-ups for the Brazilian in the octagon.
