At a recent press conference Affliction VP Tom Atencio gave the MMA world it’s first glimpse at the promotion’s “Day Of Reckoning”. The October 11th show is Affliction’s sophomore effort in MMA. It takes place in Las Vegas at the Thomas & Mack Center and features a main event of Andre Arlovski battling Josh Barnett in what Atencio calls a “#1 contenders match” for Fedor’s WAMMA belt.
Much like they did with FSN for the airing of some preliminary fights before their July 19th show, HDNet Fights will air three preliminaries before the PPV broadcast. Two of the three prelims were announced at the press conference. Mike Pyle will take on Jason High and Paul Buentello will lock up with Roy Nelson, who is the heavyweight champion of the IFL.
A few main card fights were announced as well. Vladimir Matyushenko will fight Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, and Matt Lindland will fight Vitor Belfort. Belfort is currently recuperating from a hand injury sustained during his KO win over Terry Martin, but is hopeful to return in October for his match with Lindland.
Another big story coming from Affliction is the rumored signing of Tito Ortiz. Although nothing has been officially announced yet, it appears as though Ortiz will be fighting Renato “Babalu” Sobral on the main card of the event.
