In a recent interview, Vitor Belfort revealed to the MMA world that he would be fighting Matt Lindland at Affliction’s sophomore show on October 11th. The show is currently rumored to be taking place on UFC turf in Las Vegas, but the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City has also been mentioned as a possible site for the card, which will be headlined by Fedor Emelianenko putting his WAMMA heavyweight belt on the line against Andrei Arlovski.
Although Belfort broke his hand in his recent KO victory over Terry Martin, he doesn’t see the injury as hindering his fight with Lindland this fall.
“The doctor will analyze it, but I may stay four weeks out,” Belfort said in the interview. “I’ll come back on October 11th to fight Matt Lindland for the belt”
The belt he speaks of is Affliction’s 185lb. Championship Belt which will be awarded to the winner of the fight between the Oregonian Lindland and the Brazilian Belfort.
Lindland, who also fought on Affliction’s rookie card, won a unanimous decision victory over Fabio Negao.
Other rumors circulating is that Tito Ortiz may be fighting Renato Sobral, Paul Buentello may be fighting Pedro Rizzo, and just today Josh Barnett has said he’ll be fighting at the event.
