At the UFC’s post-fight press conference following their highly rated Ultimate Fight Night 14 on Saturday night, Dana White revealed to the MMA world that Yushin Okami had suffered a broken hand while training and would be likely replaced by Patrick Cote in a rumored bout against Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva at UFC 88 in Atlanta.
Although Silva moved up in weight to fight James Irvin on Saturday night, he has stated on numerous occasions that he has a responsibility to the middleweight division and only wishes to fight at 205lb. to take part in some of the greatest match-ups MMA has ever seen. How does Silva/Liddell sound? How about Anderson vs. Wanderlei? You get the picture?
It’s also been reported that the next title defense for Silva may be postponed until UFC 89 in England. The event has long been rumored to be available on SpikeTV, and the official word is expected soon. In that case Silva’s opponent may be Okami if his hand is healed in time. Either way, Silva is hoping to drop back down to middleweight soon and fight frequently.
