Ed Soares, manager of UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva, confirmed today that Silva will in fact be fighting Yushin Okami in his next 185 lb. title defense. He confirmed the news today on TAGG Radio.
Although an exact date hasn’t been confirmed, UFC 88 in Atlanta is the most likely at this time, barring any sustained injuries in his bout with James Irvin.
Silva and Okami are no strangers to each other. They met in a January ’06 bout which resulted in a DQ loss for Silva, who illegally kicked Okami in the face. It was the last time Silva has lost a match. If he can defeat “The Spider”, Okami will both win the Middleweight Championship and avenge the illegal blow which brutally ended their last encounter.
