Last week we reported that BJ Penn would likely face the winner of Georges St. Pierre vs. Jon Fitch. Dana White confirmed that there is talk of a Georges St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn superfight, but that the fight would only happen if St. Pierre were to “buzzsaw” through Fitch.
“Georges St. Pierre has to get by Jon Fitch first. Fitch is no joke,” said White. “If St. Pierre buzzsaws through Fitch then yes, we’ll do BJ vs. GSP.”
White also pointed out that the move up for Penn would not mean abandoning his lightweight title.
“BJ will keep the title and go to 170,” said White. “Penn also said he’ll come back down to defend the title at lightweight.”
Penn has stated that he will be fighting the winner of Florian and Huerta, which was originally intended to be a title eliminator, but that appears unlikely now according to White.
“BJ will not fight the winner of Huerta and Florian. Penn wants GSP,” said White. “He even wants me to pull the Fitch fight.”
