Fans excited to see Jake Shields battle Drew Fickett this past Saturday were let down when Fickett was forced to withdraw from the contest due to a knee injury a month ago.
Fickett however, who told EliteXC executives that he would be unable to fight by June 14, fought for Rage In The Cage on June 6, just a week before his proposed fight with Shields would have taken place. This drew the ire of EliteXC who is said to be considering dropping Fickett from their roster of fighters.
So where does this leave Jake Shields? Now that he will no longer be facing Fickett in September as originally planned, EliteXC has decided to put Shields on the recently announced July 26th CBS card. His opponent has yet to be decided, but the early word has Nick Thompson and Jay Hieron tabbed as possibilities.
