Main Card

Thiago Silva vs. Antonio Mendes

Round 1: Mendes knocked down Silva early with a high kick, even though Silva had his hand up and blocked some of it. Mendes followed that by taking Silva down again but they were back up later. Silva then took Mendes down and mounted Mendes and Silva had him in full mount. Silva started hammering away and the referee stopped it to win by TKO.

Winner via tapout (strikes) in Round 1: Thiago Silva

BJ Penn is leading in the poll on who will win his fight tonight with Sean Sherk with 65% to 35%.

Urijah Faber was shown in the crowd and they plugged his fight with Jens Pulver next week.

Lyoto Machida vs. Tito Ortiz

Round 1: The two started the round without much contact for the first minute. Ortiz shoots, but is blocked. Very little action in this round with two minutes left. Machida got a good high kick, but not much else happened this round. Finally with 10 second left in the round Machida took Ortiz down and started hitting him with punches as the buzzer sounded to save Ortiz. I score this round 10-9 for Machida.

Round 2: The round started slow again. Half way into the round the fans started booing due to the lack of action. Ortiz kept chasing Machida around the cage. Machida took Ortiz down but didn’t do much. They were back standing shortly after with Ortiz continuing to chase Machida. Machida scored with a knee late in the round. Finally Tito stood back in frustration and then they started swinging as the round came to a close. 10-9 again for Machida.

Round 3: They touch gloves to start the round. Crowd is chanting for Tito. Yves Lavigne tripped and fell and stood up and laughed about it, which got applause from the crowd. Ortiz connected with some punces and knees and they boxed against the cage. Ortiz kept trying to take Machida down but couldn’t. Finally Machida caught Ortiz with a big knee and knocked Tito down and started punching away at Tito. It almost looked like it was going to be over. With 40 seconds left in the round Ortiz got Machida in a traingle and rolled it into an armbar but Machida was able to get out. 10-9 Machida again.

Winner: Lyoto Machida Via Unanimous Decision. All three judges scored it 30-27.

Machida was booed heavily after the fight as Joe Rogan interviewed him. Rogan then interviewed Tito, which surprised me. Ortiz gave Machida props. Ortiz said that the stuff with him and Dana was BS, he thanked the Fertittas and said he hasn’t officially decided if it’s his last fight in UFC, but he’ll decide soon. Ortiz thanked the fans and Rogan thanked Ortiz if it is his last fight. Ortiz noted that Rogan interviewed him after his first UFC fight, thanked a lot of people and went out with class.

Penn now leads 59%-41% with the polling.

Wilson Gouveia vs. Goran Reljic

Round 1: Reljic hit a nice high kick early. Half way into the round and neither had done much damage. Towards the end of the round Gouveia started pressing the action and the were swinging. Finally Relgic pulled guard, but not much happened. I think Gouveia stole the round with the last minute, 10-9 Gouveia .

Round 2: Gouveia was aggressive again and knocked Reljic down and hammered away at Reljic, but Reljic was able to block some. Reljic hit Gouveia with a hard body ahot and started landing a flurry of punches and Herb Dean stopped the fight.

Winner: Goran Reljic via TKO (strikes) in 3:15 in Round 2

They’re showing Shane Carwin vs. Christian Wellisch from earlier in the night.

Keith Jardine vs. Wanderlei Silva

Round 1: Silva nailed Jardine and knocked him down immediately. Silva hammered away at him and the referee stopped it. Jardine looks like he’s in bad shape.

Winner: Wanderlei Silva via KO in 0:36 in Round 1

They’re showing the Rousimar Palhares – Ivan Salaverry fight from earlier in the night.

They aired a lengthy video promoting the Faber – Pulver fight next week. They interviewed Pulver and Faber too.

BJ Penn vs. Sean Sherk

Round 1: Sherk went for a takedown early but BJ stuffed it. Tey then traded blows with Penn getting the better of it. Penn was landing a lot of single shots and kept it up the whole round. I score it 10-9 for Penn.

Round 2: The two started exchanging blows early on. Penn kept getting the better of the exchanges. Penn kept connecting with punches. Another 10-9 round for Penn. Sherk’s face is a mess with cuts under both eyes.

Round 3: Penn keeps nailing Sherk with single shots. It was more of the same as the other rounds with Penn connecting more. Penn nailed Sherk with a flying high knee and pounded away on him and the referee stopped it right as the buzzer went off to get the win.

Winner via TKO: BJ Penn

After the fight Penn and Sherk hugged and Penn showed Sherk respect. He then called out Georges St. Pierre.
