Tom Ngo of 5thRound.com recently spoke to Frankie Edgar for an interview where Edgar divulged that he was going to be returning to the Octagon in April. Edgar told 5thRound.com, “I’m just going to train for my next opponent, should be fighting sometime in April”. When asked if he knew who he was fighting Edgar told 5thRound.com, “I don’t know, I just know the timeline it’s going to be in April. I’m not sure exactly when or where yet.”
FiveOuncesofPain.com reported yesterday that the UFC was close to signing top Lightweight fighter Takanori Gomi, but the deal fell through at the last minute. According to reports, Gomi was offered a fight with Edgar in April.
A source close to the Frankie Edgar camp said that Edgar was never formally offered a fight with Gomi, but that as soon as Edgar heard the rumor his camp tried to get in contact with the UFC to make the fight happen.
